Southern Illinois University at Carbondale will host the Motorcycle Rider Program and the Experienced Riders Course at the Coles County Memorial Airport from April through October. For questions, please call 1-800-642-9589 or visit their Web site. Tentative dates are being scheduled now. Classes fill up quickly, please register early.

20-21 Illinois Agricultural Aviation Association Operation Safe Aerial applicators from the Midwest descend on MTO to calibrate their spray equipment and discuss safety issues. Contact Rick Reed or Dom Youakim at Aerinova Aerial at 217/234-9439 (rain date of April 22, 2015)

9-16 Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Johnson Flight Encampment This week is dedicated to powered aircraft only.

17-25   Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Johnson Flight Encampment - Now in its 48th year. Promotes aviation to young people by teaching them to fly gliders, balloons, and powered aircraft.

26-Jul 3   Civil Air Patrol (CAP) National Glider Academy - Dedicated to promoting aviation to young people from across the United States by teaching them to fly gliders. Now in its 12th year!

4   Open House & Fireworks Display - Food vendors on site. Free admission; handicapped parking available. Bring lawn chairs/blankets. The fireworks show will begin at dusk. No personal fireworks allowed. No pets allowed. Shuttles available from Mattoon and Charleston.

8-9   Wings Program - This FAA Pilot Proficiency Award Program is designed to encourage general aviation pilots to continue their training. Open to all pilots with a private certification or higher with a current medical certificate. For details, contact Carol Para of the Illinois Division of Aeronautics at 217-785-4989.

27 Air Show 16 Gates open at 11, the show starts at Noon! Bring lawn chairs/blankets. Food vendors on site. Monster Truck Rides and bounce houses are back. There is no admission but donations will be accepted at the gates. There is NO SMOKING on airport premises. NO PETS are allowed on airport premises (except service animals). Air Show acts are being booked now. Check back for updates.
